What are the benefits and harms of panty liners?
They absorb vaginal secretions and odors, protect underwear and clothing from dirt, and help keep the genital area clean, fresh and comfortable all day long.
Daily discharge is a normal, healthy process that protects against various infections entering the body.
Vaginal discharge may be caused by natural changes in estrogen levels. When levels are high, estrogen stimulates the cervix to produce secretions (mucus) and a small amount of mucus may be released from the vagina.
The mucus produced by the secretory glands is needed for the formation of healthy microflora inside the vagina.
The main part of the vaginal microflora is lactic acid bacteria. They maintain an acidic environment in the vagina, which is detrimental to pathological microbes.
According to some reports, more than 60% of women use panty liners every day.
A panty liner is relatively safe only if it is used no longer than 2-3 hours. After this period of time, various pathogens begin to multiply on it. If the panty liner is not changed throughout the day, a woman may develop candidiasis or vaginosis.
According to gynecologists, a healthy woman does not need daily panty liners.
When might you need a daily routine?
-Mid of the cycle (ovulation), when mucus comes out of the cervix.
-In the second half of the cycle before the onset of periods, when the dominant “secretory” hormone – progesterone
-In the last days of periods, when the volume of blood secreted becomes minimal and you can stop using tampons and conventional pads.
-In the period of treatment with vaginal suppositories, tablets, creams.
-With smearing bleeding from the vagina, caused by a variety of reasons.
Potential harm:
– “Greenhouse” effect, not all panty liners are the same. Poor quality product disrupts air exchange in the genital area.
-Allergic reactions. Nobody is immune from them. The ingredients of the hygiene product are as likely to provoke an intolerance reaction as food.
